After more than eight years of operation, Council has resolved to review the Port Sorell and Environs Strategic Plan 2008, which has been a valuable guide to development in the area since its adoption late in 2008. It is proposed to conduct this review in a consultative manner with stakeholder collaborative designing by the consultant engaged to progress the project.

Perhaps you are considering establishing a new arts or cultural event or festival for ongoing staging in the Latrobe Municipality. LATROBE WELCOMES LONG TERM SURETY OF MERSEY UNDER STATE GOVERNMENT

Acting Mayor Rick Rockliff today supported the announcement by Prime Minister Turnbull in relation to the future of the Mersey Community Hospital. Latrobe Council has never waivered in its negotiations for a 10-year deal on the Mersey and are proud to have played a role in achieving this historic agreement.

Australian Masters Games

This October, it is anticipated there will be over 5000 extra people in the North West for the Australian Masters Games. Unfortunately, rumours of accommodation being full during the games are affecting the number of people that might come, are simply not true and damage the full potential of the Games for the region.

GOVERNMENT’S AGENDA QUESTIONED

The Mayor of Latrobe, Councillor Peter Freshney is calling on the State Government to further elaborate on their decision to actively consider acquisition of Local Government’s water and sewerage assets and ownership of TasWater. Mayor Freshney stated Latrobe Council had been one of the most impacted Councils following the almost forced transfer of water and sewerage by the previous state government from local councils to regional water corporations and then Taswater.

CONGRATULATIONS to the recently announced recipients of the Latrobe Municipality's Australia Day Awards for 2017 - * CITIZEN OF THE YEAR - Mrs Julie Bissett * YOUNG CITIZEN OF THE YEAR - Miss Eve Bell * COMMUNITY EVENT OF THE YEAR - Lions Club of Port Sorell Inc for their support in effecting BlazeAid Floos Assistance. This award was accepted by Mr Neil Davidson.

$5.6 Million Aged Care Expansion Approved

Rubicon Grove, One Care’s aged care facility at Port Sorell, today received the welcome news that its planning permit for an expansion of its services has been approved by Latrobe Council.

Marana Drive Fuel Reduction Burn

Weather permitting, the Tasmania Fire Service will be conducting a fuel reduction burn on Thursday 1st December at Marana Drive, Bakers Beach, as part of the state-wide Fuel Reduction Program which is aimed at reducing the bushfire risk to help protect lives and communities
