Latrobe Town Centre Enhancement

3 October 2015

In the early 1990’s, the rejuvenation of the main street of Latrobe resulted in a high degree of town pride as works were undertaken to restore the many historic facades of commercial premises.

Since then, the town of Latrobe has thrived as a place to do business in a relaxed environment.

“As the town of Latrobe continues its strong growth, Ms Wendy Morris has been commissioned to develop a strategy for future commercial development.

“Ms Morris bring a wealth of experience with her and knows the town somewhat having been involved in its former 1990’s revitalisation.

The strategy will not only looks at the main street and opportunities for commercial and tourist development, it will also take into account the presentation of the existing town centre buildings; the strengthening of the urban amenity of the central business district; current and future parking needs; pedestrian movements along Gilbert Street; the potential for residential development behind the town centre and concurrently a secondary street network parallel to Gilbert Street; review the nearby public spaces and potential for the establishing of a business or commercial based organisation to be the catalyst for future improvements,” said Mayor Peter Freshney.

A preliminary forum by Ms Wendy Morris will be held in the Supper Room of the Latrobe Memorial Hall, James Street, Latrobe at 7.00 pm on Wednesday, 14 October where persons interested in and/or wishing to contribute to the development of this strategy are invited to attend.
