COMMUNITY CONSULTATION: New Camping By-Law

A proposed new Camping By-Law for the Latrobe Municipality is currently open for community input until 25 March. This by-law is to address the issue of “camping” (as broadly defined) on Council controlled land, including Council roads and in particular “overnight stops” by mobile homes, campervans, caravans and the like.

NOTICE OF BY LAW NO 1 OF 2019 CAMPING BY-LAW

Notice is hereby given that Council has, in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act 1993, received a certificate from the Director of Local Government, enabling public consultation for the above By-law to occur.

The objective of the By-law is to address the issue of “camping” (as broadly defined) on Council controlled land, including Council roads and in particular “overnight stops” by mobile homes, campervans, caravans and the like.

The impact and primary features of the By-law are as follows:
(1) banning all camping (as broadly defined) on all Council controlled land; and
(2) providing exemptions from that for:

  • established caravan parks
  • identified “overnight stop areas” in accordance with a permit taking into consideration the Competitive Neutrality Principles (Economic Regulator Act 2009).
  • otherwise with the written authority of the General Manager

(3) regulating the discharge of effluent from activities associated with camping.

Copies of the proposed By-law and Regulatory Impact Statement are available from these links or from the Council Office at 170 Gilbert Street Latrobe.

For enquires regarding the proposed By-law, please contact Darrin Cunningham on 6426 4444.

Submissions in respect to the By-law may be made in writing, addressed to the General Manager, PO Box 63, Latrobe 7307 and must be received before close of business on Monday 25th March 2019.
