BUS SERVICE FORUM SEEKS YOUR OPINION

INPUT LAYS FOUNDATION FOR NEXT DECADE OF SERVICE

The Department of State Growth has responsibility for contracting public transport services, including Metro Tasmania’s and Merseylink’s urban bus services, with the current 10 year contracts expiring at the beginning of 2019.

The North West Region currently has very low public transport use, 0.5% in Devonport compared to the rest of the state which has an average of 3%.

With the current contracts expiring, the Department of State Growth have the first major opportunity in nearly a decade to review these services and ensure that the network put in place better supports the travel needs of people in the region in accessing employment, education and services, improving the overall social connectivity of Tasmanians now and into the future.

The Department has engaged public transport consultants Phillip Boyle and Associates to undertake a detailed review of the Devonport urban bus networks.

During the review, a series of community workshops will be held with discussion on the services in and through Devonport looking forward over the next 10 years to be held on 4 April from 1.30pm until 4.30pm at the Devonport Entertainment and Convention Centre.

This workshop is designed to seek your feedback on what works well and what does not in respect to the current bus network with input directly affecting the design of the future network.

If you would like to attend this workshop, register is essential by either phoning 6166 4473 or emailing project2018@stategrowth.tas.gov.au.  Numbers are limited.

If you cannot attend the workshop, please make comments to the email address or phone number above by Friday 7 April.

Additional to this forum, there will also be as opportunity for outlying communities to talk specifically on their bus service through a separate public consultation process, which will be released shortly.
