Review of Port Sorell Strategic Plan

After more than eight years of operation, Council has resolved to review the Port Sorell and Environs Strategic Plan 2008, which has been a valuable guide to development in the area since its adoption late in 2008. It is proposed to conduct this review in a consultative manner with stakeholder collaborative designing by the consultant engaged to progress the project.

The project commenced with a public meeting held at the Port Sorell Memorial Hall at 7.00pm on Thursday 23 February 2017.  Nearly 200 people attended to listen and provide input to this meeting.  As a follow up to this session, Council then conducted workshops on Saturday 8 April at the Port Sorell Memorial Hall to discuss the following issues that were identified as having particular public interest:

  1. Town Centre/Alexander Street Precinct, including traffic management, parking and future development;
  2. Street Tree Planting and Public Realm Beautification, including looking at Club Drive, Alexander Street and Wilmot Street;
  3. Sporting Facilities, including looking at oval upgrade, Bowling Club and other sportsfield/facility needs;
  4. Waste Management; and
  5. Shearwater Village Revitalisation.
