FUNDING ENSURES PORT SORELL INITIATIVES

Senator Steve Martin recently announced $4.23m funding not tied to the yet to be announced Federal Government election ...

The recent announcement of $230,000 funding for the redevelopment of the Port Sorell Surf Life Saving Club and $4 million for the Camp Banksia upgrade and expansion project has been welcomed by Latrobe Council and the wider Port Sorell community.

The Port Sorell Surf Life Saving Club redevelopment plans have been available for public inspection at the clubrooms following a commitment for Stage 1 of $40,000 from the Tasmanian Government and $60,000 from Latrobe Council.

“It is so exciting for the Committee to be able to finally say that the redevelopment in its entirety, as prepared by Jack and Trinity of Engineering Plus, is now ‘all systems go’ with full funding guaranteed in this announcement by Nationals Senator Steve Martin and his coalition Government colleagues Senators Richard Colbeck and Eric Abetz along with Senate candidate Tanya Denison and Braddon Liberal candidate Gavin Pearce,” said Port Sorell Surf Life Saving Club President, Mr Haydon Coates.

“The funding allocation will support the ongoing development of the Port Sorell Surf Life Saving Club membership and continue the wonderful work that they do on our beaches and in our community,” said the Mayor of Latrobe Council, Councillor Peter Freshney.

“Additionally, the $4 million commitment to the Camp Banksia complex will deliver long-held aspirations for the site and provide a multi-faceted facility that not only meets current community expectations but is accessible to the community well in to the future.

The Senators made it clear that the announced funding was not contingent on the outcome of the yet to be announced Federal election and encouraged Latrobe Council and the Port Sorell Surf Life Saving Club to initiate the processing and delivery of the grant funding as a priority.

Latrobe Council sincerely appreciates the work undertaken and advocacy provided by our National and Liberal Senate representatives and preselected Liberal candidates and we look forward to the delivery of these projects in the not too distant future,” he added.
